Privacy Policy
Article One ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Article One iOS app (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Overview
Article One is a daily industry digest app. We collect only the information needed to provide the App, enforce free read limits, deliver notifications, and process subscriptions. We do not sell your personal information and we do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the App.
Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Sign in with Apple. When you sign in, Apple provides an account identifier so you can access the App. The App stores this identifier in your device's secure Keychain. You may also choose to share your email address with us through Sign in with Apple; if you do, Apple handles that disclosure according to your Apple ID settings. The App does not require your name or email to function.
- Support requests. If you contact us by email (for example, to report a bug or suggest a feature), we receive whatever information you include in your message.
Information collected automatically
- Reading activity. To enforce the monthly free read limit for non-subscribers, the App records which digest editions you have opened. This information is stored using Apple's iCloud Key-Value storage and is associated with your iCloud account, not with content you read inside each digest.
- Push notification token. If you enable notifications, the App receives a device token from Apple and sends it to our servers so we can deliver push notifications to your device. We also record whether the token is from a development (sandbox) or production environment.
- App preferences. Typography settings (heading and body font choices) are stored locally on your device.
- Cached content. The App may store the latest digest on your device so it can load more quickly when you reopen the App.
- Subscription status. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. The App checks your App Store subscription entitlements on your device to determine whether you have an active subscription. We do not receive or store your payment card details.
Information we do not collect
The App does not collect precise location data, contacts, photos, browsing history outside the App, or health data. We do not use third-party analytics, crash reporting, or advertising trackers in the App.
How We Use Information
We use the information described above to:
- Authenticate you and maintain your signed-in session
- Deliver digest content from our servers
- Enforce free read limits and reset them each month
- Send push notifications you have opted into, including reminders when free reads reset
- Process and validate App Store subscriptions
- Respond to support requests
- Maintain and improve the App
Where Information Is Stored and Processed
- On your device: Sign-in identifier (Keychain), font preferences, and cached digest content
- Apple iCloud: Digest read history used for free read limits
- Our servers: Push notification device tokens and digest content served through our API at
api.ethanjamesfox.com
Apple processes Sign in with Apple and in-app purchase transactions under Apple's Privacy Policy.
Sharing of Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
We may share information only in these limited cases:
- Service providers. We use infrastructure to host our API and deliver notifications. Those providers process data only to operate the App on our behalf.
- Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
- Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
Data Retention
- Your Sign in with Apple identifier remains in your Keychain until you sign out or delete the App.
- Read history in iCloud Key-Value storage persists until it is reset at the start of a new month or you remove iCloud access for the App.
- Push notification tokens remain on our servers until they are invalidated or you disable notifications and we remove them.
- Support emails are retained only as long as needed to respond to your request and maintain reasonable records.
Your Choices
- Sign out. You can sign out from Settings in the App. This removes your stored Sign in with Apple identifier from the device Keychain.
- Notifications. You can enable or disable notifications in iOS Settings at any time.
- Subscriptions. You can manage or cancel your subscription through your Apple ID subscription settings.
- iCloud data. You can manage iCloud Key-Value storage through your Apple ID and device settings.
- Delete the App. Uninstalling the App removes locally stored data from your device. Data stored in iCloud or on our servers may persist according to the retention practices above until removed through the relevant controls.
Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including secure on-device storage for authentication data and encrypted network connections for API requests. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
International Users
If you use the App from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where we or our service providers operate. By using the App, you consent to that processing.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes become effective means you accept the updated policy.
